Amplifying public health matters among Africans and people of Black descent

Bringing awareness of public health matters to all

Our Vision

aPHrica Pulse is a storytelling and knowledge-sharing platform committed to bringing prominence to public health matters affecting people of African and Black descent.

We amplify African and diaspora voices by curating thought pieces, reflections, and simplified research that center lived experiences, challenge dominant narratives, and make public health more accessible and inclusive.

Our Mission

aPHrica Pulse was born in 2024 from a shared belief among four public health professionals—Mary, Rita, Victory, and Ellen—that stories can power change in African and Black communities.

The idea first took root when Mary, whose journey had taken her from biomedical science into public health, began imagining a platform dedicated to amplifying African voices in health. She had seen the power of personal stories during her postgraduate work and through her research and communication experiences with HIV and sexual and reproductive health.

What began as Mary’s spark quickly grew into a collective vision. Rita brought her expertise in advocacy and community mobilisation, Victory added her experience in research and systems thinking, and Ellen contributed her depth in communications. Together, we blended our skills, perspectives, and networks into what is now aPHrica Pulse.

Our name reflects that vision. The “PH” stands for public health; “Pulse” captures our commitment to staying in tune with the most pressing health matters. More than a platform, we see aPHrica Pulse as a movement to bring prominence to public health issues affecting African and those of Black descent worldwide.
